takara, hō
Treasure is takara, takakaramono, or hōmotsu.
Otakara also means treasure but sounds rather comical.
A lottery is takarakuji. You can find a lottery ticket booth everywhere. Look for today’s character for one.
Treasure or ability you have but you don’t use is waste we call “takara no mochigusare.” Mochigusare means “rotten while being kept.” The English equivalent of this expression is a miser’s gold rotting away.
A treasure mine is “takara no yama.” Treasure hunting is takarasagashi.
Mine here for these expressions in Japanese.
Children are treasures to their parents and therefore called kodakara. The dakara of kodakara is a voiced sound of takara.
