The adjective “wakai” means young. One of its variations is “wakasa” meaning youth.

When you look back on your experiences as an adolescent, you sometimes regret what you did. If it’s the case, you can excuse by saying, “wakage no itari desu (or deshita),” which means “I was too young to do the right things.” It literally means the result of youthful vitality. Wakage means youthful vitality and this word is used as something fallible. I guess that’s how adults always talk about youth. Itari means the results of something.
