ta-tsu, ta-eru, ta-yasu, zetsu

You can make three verbs with this character. Their meanings are to cut off, to become extinct, or to let something die out.

Cutting Off

The verb tatsu implies to cut off something or to put an end to something. The object of this verb can be communications, a relationship, supplies, and so on.

  • To cut off communications … tsūshin wo tatsu
  • To cut off a relationship … kankei wo tatsu
  • To cut off supplies … kyōkyū wo tatsu
  • To put an end to one’s career … kyaria wo tatsu

Becoming Extinct

The verb taeru implies to become extinct or to die out. The subject of this verb can be a family line or customs.

  • The family line died out. … kakei ga taeta
  • The customs have died out. … shūkan ga taeta

Taeta is the past form of taeru.

Letting Something Die Out

The verb tayasu implies to let something die out. The object of this verb can be fire, as well as, a family line.

  • To let a family line die out … kakei wo tayasu
  • To let fire die out … hi wo tayasu

Zeppin is an extremely good product. Zek is the end of a relationship.

Zettai means absoluteness and zettaini is an adverb whose meaning is absolutely. The tai of zettai means a counterpart.

  1. Begin to draw the left-hand side of the character. Draw the sweeping stroke from the top.
  2. Draw the short stroke from almost where you finished the last stroke.
  3. Draw the stroke that parallels the first stroke.
  4. Draw the sweeping stroke that is almost horizontal.
  5. Draw the dot at the end of the previous stroke.
  6. Draw the vertical stroke.
  7. Draw the sweeping stroke on the left of the vertical stroke.
  8. Draw the dot on the other side.
  9. Begin to draw the right-hand side of the character. Draw the sweeping stroke from the top to the lower left.
  10. Draw the hook. After changing the direction of the stroke, draw the sweeping stroke.
  11. Draw the hook.
  12. Draw the short vertical stroke in the rectangle.
  13. Draw the lower side of the rectangle.
  14. Draw the long curve. Finish it with an upward turn.

In the dictionary, this is categorized as a 12-stroke character. When you write this character with a pen, connect the first and the second strokes, and the third and the fourth strokes.
