Fruit or Reality

mi, mino-ru, mino-ri, jitsu
Thinking about kanji is a quite philosophical activity. Each kanji character has several different meanings, which are not necessarily consistent particularly in case the reality is concerned.
Mi is fruit. Mino-ri is a noun, ripening. Mino-ru is a verb, to ripen. Both ri and ru are okurigana.
Jitsu is reality or truth. We use expressions like jitsu no tokoro or jissai to indicate a fact or a real situation.
To sum, this character means that something becomes ripe or full. At the same time, it means truth or reality. This might suggest that something ripe or full is the true or real state of them.
The top part is called kanmuri (a crown), which is bushu (a radical).
